The NIV Bible: The Final Translation
Through centuries, the Bible has been translated by many. Sometimes, it was translated in a way to meet the political demands of the time. Other times, scholars got their hands on the words of the Bible. However, there has never been a version of the Bible that has been recognized as being as true to the real words of the Bible as the New International Version (NIV).
When the NIV Bible project was first taken on, there were goals in mind. First it would have people of different denominations get together in order to provide the most accurate translation possible. Biblical scholars realized there had been things that were lost in translation throughout the years, and part of the reason that had occurred was the separation of different religions while translating the Bible. By bringing the denominations together, they hoped to find a version that was accurate and everyone could agree on. They also hoped to make a Bible that was not secular in nature.
In the making of this translation, teams of scholars were given parts of the Bible to translate. They worked to translate their books of the Bible, and then had to pass it through an editor. The editor made any revisions in order to get the most accurate translation of the Bible possible.
Accuracy was not the only thing those working on the NIV project had in mind when translating the Bible. They also wanted a Bible that was literary. The original Bible was worded in a way that made it one of the biggest literary masterpieces of all time. They did not want that to be lost in translation.
They also wanted the Bible to be easy to read. They wanted people to be able to learn from the Bible on their own or in large groups. Because of that, they worked to ensure it was readable for everyone, no matter how much religious knowledge they had prior to the reading.
In the end, they managed to create a Bible that was the most accurate of all time. While no one can go back in time and get the words of the Bible dictated directly to them, this is widely agreed to be the most accurate translation available today.
This effort consumed quite a bit of time and money. It is agreed it was well worth it, as it gives followers a better idea of the words of the Bible and the meaning they hold. The translation was such a success because it allowed every denomination to be involved in the translation. By being inclusive, the translation was free from bias.
